MotoGP is heading to a new street circuit in Adelaide for the 2027 Australian Grand Prix, but rumors are suggesting the event is really just a ‘red herring’.

According to a journalist Matt OxleyPlans to build a street circuit in the city are rumored to be a ‘red herring’ to get away from Phillip Island by 2027.
Speaking through The Oxley Bom MotoGP PodcastHe hinted that the event in Adelaide may not go ahead, and the sport will instead move to The Bend, a racetrack on the outskirts of the city.
Oxley explained: “There are rumors that the whole thing is a bit of a red herring.
“Well, they needed a red herring to take the competition away from Phillip Island and that really just left them going to The Bend, outside Adelaide.”

MotoGP has considered The Bend as an option to replace Phillip Island.
Phillip Island organizers have tried desperately to keep the Australian GP on track, with fans pleading with Liberty and the MotoGP governing body to leave the race on the calendar.
To no avail as the district prepared to take down the calendar for the first time since 1996. However, Adelaide was not the only possible location.
Is Phillip Island too dangerous for MotoGP?
Bend Motorsports Park was in talks with MotoGP. Hosting the Australian GP. The circuit, an hour’s drive outside of Adelaide, has eight stages and the International Service for Motorcycle Racing at 4.95km.
It is keen to host international sporting events and would be a good option if the Adelaide Games do not go ahead in 2027.
