Manuel Ugarte has confessed that the project offered to Manchester United was enough to convince him to do it to move at Old Trafford this summer.
United had been chasing Ugarte all summer but appeared to have abandoned a deal due to Paris Saint-Germain’s refusal to budge on their asking price, but rekindled talks once Scott McTominay’s move to Napoli had been agreed .
A a deal worth up to €60m (£50.6m) was confirmed on deadline daywith Ugarte later explaining why his desire to join United was so strong this summer.
He told the club’s media: “It’s an incredible feeling to join a club of this magnitude, which is admired around the world. The project that the football management discussed with me is very exciting; Manchester United it’s an ambitious club and I’m an ambitious player.
“The passion of the fans is something that is very important to me, I know how amazing the United fans are and I can’t wait to experience Old Trafford. I am someone who is so determined to succeed, I will sacrifice and give everything for my teammates. Together we will fight to win trophies and reach the level where this club should be.”

Sporting director Dan Ashworth added: “Signing Manuel was another of our main targets this summer. He is among the best midfielders in the world and has an excellent track record at both club and international level. His qualities , experience and passion will be a great addition to our strong midfield group.
“Manuel is a player we have watched closely, and we are excited to see the positive impact he will have on the field and in the locker room as we continue to strive for success.”
Before the deal was announced, manager Erik ten Hag made clear his plans for Ugarte in the United set-up.
“I think he’s a great fit for Manchester United,” he said Sky Sports “I think he’s a great fit for this team because this team needs that controlled aggression.
“He is a very brave player, so we will be very happy. I am sure he will really contribute to our success.”
