Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero is the forerunner who is Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent after his return this past weekend. Floyd Mayweather jr. And Gevonta ‘Tank’ Davis is also options for 46-year-old Pacquiao, but less likely.
The fight against WBA Welterweight Champion Romero (17-2, 13 COs) would give Pacquiao (62-8-2, 39 cost) his second consecutive title shot after he was empty in his 12-round draw against WBC 147-Pond Champion Martio Barrios last Saturday, July 19.
Romero leads pacquiao options
Fans will not be satisfied that Pacquiao gets a second shot to skip the line for another title shot, but if the World Boxing Association is good at it, the fight can happen.
Pacquiao looked good for a middle -aged person in his fight against Barrios, but nowhere near the level he was years ago. The fight showed how horrible Barrios is, more than saying something about Pacquiao. Manny looked like he would be no game for most fighters in the top -15, but against Barrios he was at his level.
“There is Mayweather, from Gerrvonta, of a re -broadcast with Barrios, but it seems the most likely opponent for Pacquiao Rolly Romero,” says Salvador Rodriguez on X.
The adviser of Pacquiao, Sean Gibbons, wanted a bigger name that could bring PPV purchase for Manny’s next battle. He calls Tank Davis and Rolly. It will probably be too expensive to convince Tank to agree to a fight against Pacquiao.
Rolly not a PPV draw
Romero is no longer a PPV draw as Mario Barrios. There is no real difference. If they put Pacquiao against Romero on PPV, there will be no increase in buying. Even with Rolly trying his best to entertain, it won’t buy much. It can buy even less, because Rolly will not be comfortable talking to the legend.
Given Pacquiao’s advanced age, there are not many fans who want to see an old fighter like him. They cannot identify with a 46-year-old man, and they consider it a money-driven return driven by greed.
