While most of their peers were playing UEFA Champions League football on Tuesday evening, Manchester United put in a rather disappointing Carabao Cup third round tie against Barnsley.
However, any disappointment over this situation was quickly put to bed as the Red Devils put on a show for their fans at Old Trafford.
Man Utd fired seven unanswered goals in the game, with Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Antony and Christian Eriksen all finding the back of the net.
Here were United’s best performers in the win, courtesy of 90 minutes full player ratings.
Alexandre Garnacho: 10/10
Look, it wasn’t against top opposition (no offense, Barnsley fans), but Garnacho was absolutely outstanding on Tuesday evening.
The Argentine was at the heart of every Man Utd attack, showing both his creative flair and his clinical nature in front of goal. These attributes saw Garnacho score two goals either side of half-time and set up two more for his teammates.
A top performance from a young man who seems destined for *voice of Harry Rednkapp* go straight to the top.
Honorable Mentions
Marcus Rashford: 10/10
Just an honorable mention for a 10/10 performance?
Yes, a bit harsh, but after scoring another goal, we had to give the ‘best player’ award to Garnacho.
That doesn’t take anything away from how good Rashford was on Tuesday. The wide forward looked back to his prime, with two goals and an assist in the 7-0 win.
His first goal of the game was particularly eye-catching as he displayed guile, pace and clinical finishing that we hadn’t seen in a while.
Christian Eriksen: 9/10
another Man Utd player with three goals to his name in the win, like Rashford, Eriksen scored two and created another.
The veteran midfielder was simply on another level technically for Barnsley’s midfielders, misplacing just two passes all game and regularly finding time on the ball with consummate ease.
A classy exit.
