Manchester United centre-back Victor Lindelof threw his armband to the ground in frustration as he limped off injured during Sweden’s 2-1 win over Slovakia on Saturday.
The 30-year-old missed the start of the season with a toe problem but has managed seven appearances so far this year, including 58 minutes in four Premier League outings.
Unfortunately, Lindelof appears to be back on the sidelines after limping off the field just 26 minutes into Saturday’s game.
The seriousness of Lindelof’s injury is not yet known, but the veteran defender could not hide his frustration as he left the field, hitting the ground several times and throwing away his captain’s armband.
“It’s horrible to watch,” Tottenham Hotspur’s Dejan Kulusevski said of his international team-mate. “He’s just been through a long injury. It’s hard to see him like this and I know how hard it is to come back. He’s the worst there is. He’s a great guy who deserves the best.”
Lindelof is by no means a regular starter united but he could have expected a bigger role under new manager Ruben Amorim, who is expected to switch to his preferred 3-4-3 formation after joining last week.
With Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro on the sidelines, Lindelof could have played an important role at the back. Matthijs de Ligt and Jonny Evans are the only United centre-backs believed to be fully fit, with Lisandro MartÃnez withdraws from the Argentine national team due to a hip injury.
