Manchester United has been linked with Bayern Munich midfielder Konrad Laimer, following reports in Germany that Ruben Amorim is interested in the 27-year-old.
Laimer is not a global star and is the type of reliable team player that could be an asset to one united seeking to rebuild a base from which to once again challenge the English and European elite.
Sky Sport Germany suggests Laimer has caught the eye of Amorim, a manager looking to put his own stamp on the Red Devils: though not through great expense.
However, SPORTS PHOTO they have already reported as a response that the player is perfectly happy with Bayern, even as a player who is not always a starter and who does not contemplate a transfer.
His contract in Munich runs for a further two-and-a-half years until 2027, meaning his future is also fairly secure from both his and Bayern’s perspective.
Laimer has earned a reputation as a great player, heaped praise on Bayern fans on social media last week for his performance in the much-needed 1-0 Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain. Even in the defeat against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night, a game in which Manuel Neuer was calamitously sent off after 17 minutes, fans were still impressed with the Austrian.
Internationally, Laimer plays alongside former United loanee Marcel Sabitzer and former interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who also recommended Laimer to the Red Devils during his time in charge. He originally made his name in the Red Bull machine, coming through the youth ranks at Salzburg, before a 2017 move to Leipzig. He joined Bayern in 2023.
At Old Trafford, Amorim currently has Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte and Christian Eriksen at his disposal in midfield. There is also the possibility of Bruno Fernandes occupying one of the deeper roles, although it didn’t really work for the Portuguese in the recent Europa League clash with Bodo/Glimt, with United too porous in the middle in the first half .
