Man United manager Erik ten Hag has declared his side are still a work in progress following the Premier League club’s underwhelming start to the 2024/25 campaign.
Last season was a poor one by Man United’s standards and during the summer, there were doubts over the Dutch manager’s future at Old Trafford. The Red Devils’ FA Cup success played a big part in the 54-year-old avoiding the sack, but questions are being asked again.
The Manchester club have continued where they left off last season during the first part of the 2024/25 campaign and while the performances have improved slightly, the results have not been great.
United are currently 11th in the Premier League after winning just two of their opening five league games and following a 1-1 draw with FC Twente in the UEFA Europa League on Wednesday night, they are back to ask questions about Ten Hag.
Despite spending more than £150m this summer, the Man United manager has insisted his side are still a work in progress – words Red Devils fans will not want to hear.
“We are still working and in progress,” Ten Hag said during his latest press conference via Sky Sports. “We have signed very young players like last year with Hojlund, now this year Zirkzee and Leny Yoro. We believe in them now at this moment but also for the future, we have to build them.
“But I’m also impatient. I want to go straight. But we’ve also been successful and we have to work hard to achieve more success.”
Will Man United sack Erik ten Hag before Christmas?
If results continue as they have been in recent weeks, Ten Hag will be under heavy pressure at Man United as the upcoming international break offers the Premier League club’s board the perfect opportunity to make a change.
United will play Tottenham, FC Porto and Aston Villa before then and if they fail to win all three, a switch could be on the cards.
These are not easy games for the Manchester club and the previous result is high.
Although Man United fans like Ten Hag, results cannot continue as they have been as the game makes it clear that the Dutch manager is not the right man to lead the Premier League giants.
“We are still working and ongoing, we decided to sign very young players like Hojlund, Zirkzee and Yoro” ??
