Manchester United will sign a new left-back this January, according to transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano at X.
Posting this afternoon via his official account, Romano has made it clear that there is no doubt about strengthening the Red Devils in that position, which has long been reported as one of his priorities for this window.
New United manager Ruben Amorim has an obvious problem on the left flank, with the Portuguese tactician favoring the use of full-backs, with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia looking like poor choices for that type of role, both due to of their respective playing styles and constant fitness issues…
?? Manchester United will sign a new LWB no doubt. Talks for Patrick Dorgu continue after the offer of 27 million euros was rejected.
Lecce are insisting on a €40m fee as they are aware of Napoli’s interest in July.
United also have more options on the list, including Alvaro Carreras with an €18 million buy-back clause. pic.twitter.com/7Xc4yb4pFE

As Romano points out, United have options as they continue to work on a signing in that position, with Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu mentioned several times as a top target recently.
In addition, Romano has also named Benfica’s Alvaro Carreras as an option for MUFC, noting that the Premier League giants have a buy-back clause they can use to bring him back to Old Trafford.
Who would be Manchester United’s ideal left-back signing?
Both Dorgu and Carreras look like they could be good signings for United as they are two young players with attacking qualities and energy at left-back.
It looks like Dorgu won’t come cheap though, so maybe using Carreras’ buy-back clause would be the smartest option for the club.
Amorim will surely know Carreras quite well from his time in charge in Portugal, but Dorgu still seems to be emerging as the preferred option.
Things can change quickly, though give me sport they have also raised some doubts about Dorgu, linking him as a Tottenham and United target.
