A crucial fixture in the top four race comes to the Etihad on Saturday evening as Manchester City host Chelsea.
After starting the season so strongly, City looked to at least challenge for a fifth Premier League title. However, a notable collapse to conclude 2024 has seen his targets shift dramatically for the season.

The Blues were considered a title contender not so long ago, but their indifferent performance over the past month has brought them back down to earth. They are fighting for a top spot with Enzo Maresca aiming to improve on Mauricio Pochettino’s only season at the club.
City secured a 2-0 victory the last time these two sides met on the opening weekend of the season.

Man City have been quick to strengthen this winter, and all three new arrivals are in line for debuts this weekend. Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis represent the future of the Cityzens, but Guardiola needs them too.
There has been a persistent and shifting dent in defense due to injuries this season, with Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake re-emerging with fitness concerns. While Dias was forced into the half against PSG on Wednesday, Ake did not feature at all. Both are doubtful for Saturday’s game, but John Stones could return to the starting line-up.

Man City’s performance in Paris represented a team that remains vulnerable in the absence of their midfield superstar. The form of his collapse would no doubt have worried Guardiola, but such capitulations have not been uncommon this season.
Maresca must believe he can get one over his former boss in Manchester this weekend, although Chelsea won’t exactly head into this game in a ‘good time’ despite winning on Monday night.
It will take a lot on City from their disappointment of the week, but Chelsea are not in the best place to take advantage of any Cityzen Frailtits. Both teams should have joy in transition and the hosts can find something off the bench to pull this one out.
