The January transfer window will be a busy one for Man City and while the main focus will be on signings, a key figure could leave Pep Guardiola’s squad at some point in 2025.
The first half of the 2024/25 campaign has been a nightmare for the Premier League champions as the Manchester club are being punished for failing to renew their squad in the summer.
Rodri’s knee injury has also contributed to his problems, which have left City sixth in the Premier League table, on the brink of Champions League elimination and out of the Carabao Cup.
The season can still be salvaged and to do so, Man City will have to dip into the January transfer window, which is unusual for the Premier League champions.
Martin Zubimendi is one of the main protagonists linked to a movement at the Etihad in 2025 and others are expected to follow.
There will also be some departures and German champions Bayer Leverkusen are reported to have been monitoring one of City’s brightest stars.
Bayer Leverkusen are interested in signing Man City star James McAtee
Bayer Leverkusen are said to be there several clubs interested in signing James McAtee in 2025, reports the Daily Mailas it is not yet known whether the 22-year-old can keep a starting place in Guardiola’s team.
The midfielder has made just nine appearances for City this season and has received 357 minutes of action.

McAtee made a huge impression in Man City’s recent win over Leicester City as the young star came off the bench to put in an impressive display, playing a part in the second goal of the contest, which earned him a 7 rating /10 of Manchester Evening News.
Leverkusen will be looking to pounce on the current plight of English talent at the Etihad and it remains to be seen whether he will leave in 2025.
