Oakmont is not your average golf course. By UsgaThe course evaluation is 78.1 with a slope rating of 150.

For the first round of this week We openThe greens are rolling at the top 14 in the stimmeter, while the rough is cut to 5.25 inches. The course contains a 300-10 par 3 and extends to over 7,400 yards. If a scratched golf player would play the course, they would do well to keep it under 80. Simply said: Oakmont IS firm.

“I’m glad we discovered there,” Rory Mcilroy said earlier this week. “I played last Monday … You hit a ball out of the right road and you are looking for a few good minutes just to find it. Not very criminal if you miss it. Sometimes it’s criminal if you are not missing.”

Of course, fast and deep greens will give the best players in the world. But even when Oakmont is not in the “US Open Condition”, the course still has many ways to punish the players.

“Approximate assumption is lower in an average day in Oakmont, in an open non-American year,” Jon Rahm said. “The biggest challenge will be those road bunkers. They are usually very criminal. Very often deep enough, where you don’t have a chance to reach green due to length.”

As the Sean Zak of Golf.com noted, the bunkers do not have steep faces that the funnel balls in the middle of the sand. Instead, the balls are placed straight to the ends of the bunkers and you have to fight with steep grassy benches when hitting your next shooting.

“If your ball ends (on the edge), you are not off the road for so much,” Zak said. “But you have to go 30 degrees left back on the road. No progress (top).”
