Mainova Frankfurt Marathon, with strong fields, takes place on October 26, 2025

Editor’s Note: From 2013 to 2019, this writer happily traveled to Mainova’s Frankfurt Marathon to provide #RunBlogRun coverage: interviews, LIVE updates and classic marathon reviews. It is a place where many great marathons have started and is also a great course and way to see historic Frankfurt, the financial capital of Europe.

If you have the chance to visit Frankfurt, and maybe even compete there, do it.

Magdaline Massai returns to Frankfurt.

“I’m in the shape of my life” Magdaline Massai will take part in the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon next Sunday. His late addition to the field was made possible by the Kenyan’s quick recovery after collapsing in the brutal heat during last month’s World Championships marathon in Tokyo.

For Massa, it will be Mainova’s third Frankfurt Marathon in a row. In 2024, the 31-year-old player finished second with a time of 2:18:58. This time, she is the fastest woman ever on the start list of the traditional Frankfurt Marathon stand in Mainova.

The 42nd edition of the race will see the strongest elite field in its history. There are six women on the start list who have achieved personal bests of sub 2:23:00. Two of them broke 2:20:00. In addition to Magdaline Masa, it’s fellow Kenyan Sharon Chelimo, who ran the Barcelona Marathon this spring to 2:19:33. Ethiopians Etagen Voldu (2:20:03) and Aminet Ahmed (2:21:24) had to withdraw due to injuries.

Magdaline Masai was a bronze medalist in the marathon at the world championships in Tokyo, but then suffered problems in the heat and collapsed. “After the recovery break, my first training went so well that I really wanted to run another marathon in the fall. I’m in the best shape of my life and I didn’t want to waste it,” said Magdaline Massai.

“Frankfurt is the perfect race for me. I’m really excited to have the opportunity to come back.” The men’s field for the Frankfurt Marathon in Mainova is also very strong. Seven runners set personal bests in sub 2:08:00. Ethiopia’s Shura Kitata, winner of the 2017 race, returns. With a personal best of 2:04:49, he leads the field ahead of his highly rated compatriot Dejene Megers (PB: 2:05:42).

Germany’s Philemon Abraham is hoping for a strong performance and is aiming to beat his personal best of 2:08:11 at the Frankfurt Speedway.
