Maguire is committed to Manchester United on a new deal until 2027

By Martin Graham

Harry Maguire has officially extended his stay to Manchester Unitedending doubts over his future beyond the current campaign. His previous deal was due to expire in the summer, but negotiations in recent weeks have led to a confirmed renewal.

The 33-year-old centre-back has signed a one-year extension which will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2027, with an additional option to extend the deal by a further 12 months. Reports had previously indicated that a deal had been struck, and now the club have formalized those expectations.

Maguire was proud to remain at the club and described the opportunity to represent United as a major honour. He emphasized the personal importance of wearing the jersey and expressed his excitement to extend his time with the team to at least an eighth season.

Experience and leadership within the workforce is valued

Since arriving from Leicester City in 2019 for £80m, a record fee for a defender at the time, Maguire has made 266 appearances in all competitions. During his tenure, he also served as club captain from 2020 to 2023.

United’s director of football Jason Wilcox praised Maguire’s professionalism and mentality, highlighting his resilience and influence within a developing team. He pointed to the defender’s experience as a key asset for a group that aims to consistently compete for major honours.

Maguire himself acknowledged the ambition within the club, underlining the collective determination to chase trophies. He also spoke of the strong connection with the supporters and his willingness to contribute to future success alongside the current squad.

Mainoo hoped to continue on a new long-term contract

Attention now turns to Kobbie Mainoo, who is expected to sign a new deal of his own. The midfielder has been re-established as a regular starter under interim manager Michael Carrick after previously struggling for consistent opportunities under Ruben Amorim.

Mainoo’s current contract runs until 2027, including a club option for a further year, but discussions are ongoing over an improved deal. Reports suggest he has been offered a new five-year deal which would extend his stay until 2031.

Both Maguire and Mainoo have also been called up to the England squad by Thomas Tuchel for the final two games before the World Cup squad is announced in May. All will be aiming to secure a place at the tournament which will take place in North America.
