The New York Yankees defied the odds and postponed their elimination for at least one more day, defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-4 in Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday night to avoid a sweep and extend the series to Game 5 on Wednesday. Ace Gerrit Cole hits a rubber toe.
If you ask the Yankees, they’re not thinking about elimination at all, as evidenced by closer Luke Weaver’s comments after the win about his team’s chances to come back and win the series.
Asked if his Yankees could be the first team to overcome a 3-0 deficit and win a World Series game, Weaver said, “Well, I’m not one to predict the future. Gotta tell stories, I know you guys do it for a living, so I’d be willing to give you material to write one.”

Weaver pitched 1.1 perfect innings with three strikeouts in Game 4 to preserve a 2-run lead before his offense rallied for five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to ice the game.
Weaver has been a revelation for the Yankees this season after Clay Holmes blew his job and completely turned his career around at age 31.
No team down 3-0 in the World Series has ever forced even a Game 6, so the Yankees have a chance to make history in Game 5 by putting their ace on the mound.
It’s too early for the Yankees to really believe the fans, but if Cole can dominate and send this series back to Los Angeles for a Game 6, things will start to get really interesting.
