It didn’t take long for rising star manufacturer Logan Olson to unveil his first new creation since hooking up with one of golf’s biggest brands.
Olson announced his new release Craft Batch No. 3 on Thursday, just two days after TaylorMade disclosed the acquisition of Olson’s company.
With the announcement came the news that the 27-year-old Olson, already one of the most recognized names in custom saleswould remain the “Lead Designer” of all Olson products and that he would continue to work on future releases of Craft Batch. The first two Craft Batch releases cost more than $1,000 on the secondary market.
Here are five things you need to know about Olson’s latest release: the Craft Batch no. 3.
A New “Flumber’s” Neck.
Two more popular neck designs on the blades are usually plumber’s necks (also known as L-necks) or flow necks. Of the two, plumber necks are by far the more common as they offer moderate amounts of toe hang and a full offset shaft to help the player keep their hands in front of the ball.
Flow necks provide increased toe flow for players who want to feel more spin in the shot, while reducing offset for players who have strong forward presses.

With his new “Flumber’s” neck, Olson has blended the positive benefits of both designs to improve feel and acoustics.
This produces a putter that has a fairly significant toe hang, but maintains the offset, so it doesn’t require the player to have a strong forward press. Also, because of the curve in the neck, the point where the shaft and neck meet to form the “L” shape, is away from the ball, ensuring that every player can see the entirety of the ball at address.
Grooves and milling
Most paws, especially blades, these days have one face mill pattern designed to soften the feel and provide a truer spin. If they don’t, you’ll likely find a grooved putter or face insert to help the ball spin off the bottom.
Craft Group No. 3 features both a milled face and a horizontal groove pattern that further increases the putter’s ability to roll the ball off the bottom.
The only channel

TaylorMade Golf
Picking up the stock and looking at the underside, you will see a large groove milled out of the heel side of the throw sole. This is done very strategically to optimize the feel and sound of the shooter.
Olson used the channel because he discovered that the center of gravity on a typical bladed tool is not actually in the center of the clubface due to a weight imbalance created by the neck. By milling the groove on the heel side below the neck, the mass is compensated, allowing the CG to be positioned precisely in the center of the face.
Olson also used a modal analysis, a process used to understand how structures vibrate, to optimally place the mass and CG in ideal locations for sound and feel, which he spent hours testing.
