Leyton Hewitt has been suspended for the relocation of an official to Davis Cup.
Ex. 1 World and Australian captain Davis Cup Hewitt has been hit with a two-week suspension and fined $ 30,000 AU for an incident last November, the International Tennis Integrity Integrity Agency announced today. Hewitt has been suspended from September 4 to October 7, 2025, so as not to be “unjustly punitive” by affecting his Davis Cup schedule “.
Suspension dates also give Hewitt an opportunity to appeal, though itia notes “so far, no appeal has been presented.”
During the suspension, Hewitt is unable to participate in all tennis -related activities, including training, mentoring, game, captain and other accompanying roles.
44-year-old Hewitt was charged on January 6, 2025, of the relocation of a 60-year-old anti-doping official following the Davis Cup semi-final defeat to Italy in Malaga, Spain on November 23, 2024.
Fammer Hewitt’s hall denied the charge by quoting self -defense. Itia, who said the charge was brought “after reviewing video evidence, witness statements and interviews” held a Sydney hearing on July 21-22 headed by Michael Heron.
“Anti-doping staff plays a fundamental role behind scenes in maintaining tennis integrity, and they should be able to go to their roles without fear of physical contact,” CEO I Itia Karen Morhoue said. “In this case, that line was clearly crucified, and we had no opportunity but to take action.”
