Liverpool’s Alexis MacAllister joins Argentina despite injury problem


Liverpool Star Alexis Mac Allister has joined Argentina’s squad in Miami ahead of their 2026 World Cup qualifiers despite the midfielder picking up an injury during the Reds’ win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Arne Slott confirmed following the Merseyside club’s 1-0 win over the Eagles, the Argentine star was withdrawn at half-time and replaced by Dominik Szoboszlai after feeling something in his groin during the first 45 minutes at Selhurst Park

That hasn’t stopped the 25-year-old from heading to the international squad, with the Liverpool star joining the rest of the Argentina squad in Miami ahead of their World Cup qualifiers with Venezuela and Bolivia Paul Gorst of the Liverpool Echo.

Mac Allister played down injury fears after the game as the World Cup winner took to social media to confirm his problem was just a “slight niggle”.

“A great win for the team today, these are the moments that make us stronger,” said the Reds midfielder. Instagram. “I felt a slight discomfort during the match, but nothing to stop me. Now fully focused on what lies ahead.”

Mac Allister will be assessed by Argentina’s medical staff before Lionel Scaloni risks playing him, so Liverpool are unlikely to have any problems with the player’s journey.

Liverpool will not want to risk Alexis McAllister

Liverpool face Chelsea at Anfield once the Premier League season resumes after the international break and this is a game the Reds will want Mac Allister to be fully fit for.

Fans may have a problem with the Argentina star traveling to meet up with his national team following injury concerns, as many players would pull out if that happened to them. However, the national team is a huge passion for the Argentine people and the Liverpool star will not want to miss out on any of the golden periods his country is experiencing.

The Reds are likely to be in contact with Argentina’s medical staff and between the two of them, they will find a way for Mac Allister to return to the Chelsea match fully healthy.
