Sophie Lundgaard

Liverpool only have one fit goalkeeper available in Rachael Laws, although Beard confirmed last week that Teagan Micah is closing in on a return. Ceri Holland will also be out for several weeks after suffering a foot injury.

Defender Jenna Clark felt tightness in her calf over the weekend, forcing her to drop to the bench against the Spurs. Midfielder Sofie Lundgaard was substituted in the first half of last weekend’s win, and has since been confirmed with an ACL injury.

Grace Fisk has yet to feature in the matchday squad this season, although Beard confirmed ahead of their WSL opener against Leicester City that she is “two to four weeks” away from returning. Liverpool hope it’s the former, rather than the latter.

Liverpool predicted line-up against Man City (3-5-2): laws; Matthews, Bonner, Clark; Hinds, Nagano, Hobinger, Kapocs, Parry; Smith, Roman Haug.

Jess Park

Midfielder Jess Park returned to City’s squad against Barcelona after missing the 2-0 win over West Ham with a foot injury. Striker Khadija Shaw also returned to the team and was back in the goals after starting on the bench against the Hammers.

Jill Roord returned to action in the last week, playing the first 45 minutes against West Ham and getting more minutes as a substitute in the Champions League.

Man City’s predicted line-up against Liverpool (4-3-3): Yamashita; Layzell, Aleixandri, Greenwood, Casparij; Park, Hasegawa, Roord; Kelly, Shaw, Hemp.

Despite last season’s heroics and a fourth-place finish in the WSL, Liverpool have so far failed to impress in 2024/25. They were held to draws against Leicester City and West Ham, and it took a controversial last-gasp penalty to secure victory against Tottenham.

City, on the other hand, have won two and drawn just one in their WSL opener against Arsenal. While their midweek game against Barcelona in the Champions League could have an impact, Taylor has the squad available to make the necessary changes to the squad, without sacrificing quality.

It’s hard to see anything other than a City win. Defensively, Liverpool have looked vulnerable at times this season and the visitors have the attacking quality to punish them.

Prediction: Liverpool 0-3 Man City
