Gary Neville has criticized Liverpool’s Trent Alexander Arnold after he was booked for delaying the restart on Saturday.
The Reds had an incredible opportunity to overcome Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester City and go top of the table against Wolves at Molineux Stadium.
After their impressive win against Bournemouth last week, in which Arne Slot fielded a very attacking line-up, it took the visitors until first-half added time to finally find the breakthrough.
Collecting the ball on the left flank, Portuguese forward Diogo Jota delivered a precise cross into the box where he met the head of Ibrahima Konate who sent it to the floor and past the goalkeeper.
However, Wolves battled back into the game after the break, but the lead was short-lived with Mohamed Salah heading in from the spot six minutes later to make it 2-1 and seal victory for Slot team.
However, we did see the referee book Alexander Arnold after just six minutes for kicking the ball wide and delaying the restart, which has become more common so far this campaign.
Speaking about the comments, Neville criticized the England defender for allowing himself to be booked so early in the competition.
“The publicity around this particular rule means referees are now everywhere.” He said via Sky Sports.
“Trent Alexander-Arnold putting himself stupidly under pressure”.
Arsenal have suffered so far this season with the implementation of this rule, as seen on two separate occasions with Declan Rice and, more recently, Leandro Trossard being penalized for delaying the restart.
