Liverpool injury updates after the October international break

Liverpool have made an impressive start to the Arne Slot era and head into the October international break as Premier League leaders.

Nine wins from ten at the start of the Dutchman’s reign is not to be sniffed at, but the Reds’ fixtures are getting much tougher in the run-up to Christmas. As a result, Slot will be keen to have as many first-team players available as possible for the busy winter period.

As things stand, Liverpool’s treatment room is pretty empty, certainly compared to some of its rivals. However, there are still fitness issues on Merseyside that will worry Slot.

Here is the last one Liverpool injury news.

Alisson Becker

Alisson may be one of the most talented goalkeepers on the planet, but he is also one of the most injury-prone. The Brazilian faces another significant spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury during the 1-0 win at Crystal Palace before the international parenthesis.

Alisson withdrew during the game and is now looking at six weeks on the treatment table, with a late November return date set for now.

Harvey Elliott

Harvey Elliott suffered a broken foot with England Under-21s during the international break in September and has been out since. Although he is closing in on a return, he is unlikely to feature for the Reds until mid-November.

Speaking about Elliott’s absence in September, Slot said: “Harvey, of course, is a big disappointment for him, but also for us. OK, he didn’t play much in the first three games, but he played a lot in the preseason and showed himself very well.

“If he had stayed fit he would have had a lot of playing time in the next few games, but now he gives someone else a chance.”

Wataru Endo has found minutes hard to come by under Slot despite impressing in his debut season, but earned himself a career with Japan during the international break. He featured in the 2–0 win against Saudi Arabia, but missed the following tie with Australia through illness.

It remains to be seen whether Endo will be fit enough to at least make the bench this weekend against Chelsea, but it may not be a huge loss for Slot if he is unavailable.

Alexis Mac Allister made Liverpool fans sweat when he went off at half-time with a groin injury during the win at Selhurst Park. The midfielder then lined up for Argentina during the break despite concerns over his fitness.

However, Mac Allister featured in Argentina’s most recent 6-0 win over Bolivia, playing over an hour of the clash. He will be available for the visit of Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

Federico Chiesa

Federico Chiesa was the highlight of a quiet summer for Liverpool but the Italian has not yet won too many minutes in a red shirt. Slot has been careful with his introduction and a recent injury sidelined him for the wins against Bologna and Palace.

Although Slot has not revealed the exact nature of his injury, he has confirmed that Chiesa should return to the fold relatively soon.

“I don’t expect him to be out for a long time,” the Dutchman said ahead of the clash at the Palace.
