Seventy -two players arrived at West Lancashire Golf Club this week for a final qualification event with 36 holes for the 2025 open championship. Royal was trimmed to 71.
That’s because a Liv Golf Pro left the course and left without a word.
The pros, Sam HorsfieldHe was disqualified for his on foot performance, which was preceded by a nine catastrophic money, the publication of the British Golf Bond confirmed.

But with fierce competition and so few places available, every player knew he had to go early and often to accomplish it.
The opposite happened for Horsfield. The 28-year-old from England joined Liv Golf when debuting in 2022 after gathering three PD World Tour’s wins at the beginning of his career.
Playing in West Lancashire’s qualification on Tuesday, Horsfield fought in a seven 43 over his first nine holes. At that point, he decided that he would have enough and came out of the course, giving up the pursuit.
But as R&A confirmed bunked.co.ukHorsfield left the course without warning anyone about his plans. As a result, he was disqualified.
(He was not the only one who chose not to finish. Alex Fitzpatrick – brother of 2022 US Open Matt Fitzpatrick – Kieran Vincent and Kazuma Kobori were all recorded as before West Lancashire’s qualification was over.)

Pro Liv and Open Championship of 2025
When it comes to Liv Stars already qualified for the open championship in Royal Portrush, it is a mixed bag.
Many of the best players in Upsart League have already provided Tee time. Open championship winners earn automatic invitations for every open until they turn 60 years old. So Liv Pro who have won OPEN are set, a list that includes stars like Phil MickelsonLouis Oosthuizen and Cameron Smith.
