In 2017, the American Men’s National Football Team lost an essential game against Trinidad and Tobago, eliminating the US from a bed in next year’s World Cup. It was a shocking loss that sparked significant criticism, and one of the righteous voices in the immediate consequences was the former MLS star returned to analyst Taylor Twellerman, whose gathering after playing the American program went viral.
In this week’s episode of Subpar, Twellerman reviewed that moment with COLT COLT KNOST AND DREW POLTZ -And explained the intriguing background related to the golf that preceded both the game and his comments.
“Four days before this game, the US defeated Panama 4-0,” Twellerman began. “I do the game in ESPN. It’S’S’S’S IN ORLANO. I get a call the next morning. I’m at Orlando airport flying back to Boston.
“‘Hey, would you like to play 18 in Shinnecock18 in national18 in Secretand we will do 18 in Friar’s head. It will be a scratching game just, and then we will ask members to play in the finals whatever. ‘
“And I was like, I didn’t even hear anything. I said, yes, I will be there. When it starts? They go, here is the date, the first 10 o’clock in Shinnecock. I go, oh, this is the day after the US plays Trinidad.
“So, as I would do one, I packed my car. I set everything. I buy my ferry ticket at 5am, I will go to Shinnecock at 7:30. I will hit balls. I will have an egg and cheese, the English muffin.
“And then the US is down one,” Twellerman continued. “And I start to think in my head: wait a minute – if the US fails to qualify for the World Cup, I don’t think I’m playing tomorrow at that game Scratch.”
Things were tense as the game continued.
“Everyone looks at the games and everyone in their pins and needles because Messi may not be in it, the United States may not be in it. And all the time I’m sitting there going there, can I get back from the golf tour now or should I wait?
“So all the time, I am like, there is no effective way that I should not play on this golf tour because we cannot defeat Trinidad and Tobago in Trinidad, where our US national list, the United States Men’s National, was worth 194 million dollars and Trinidad was worth $ 24, $ 25 (million).
“Well, here we are, they lose,” Twellerman said. “We have people crying, adult men and women crying in the studio. Max Bretos can’t look at me, I can’t understand. He goes, what are we going to do? No problem. “
It was then that Twellerman handed over Rant Tach-Viral along with Bretos at ESPN’s sportsenter.
“The biggest achievement until the day I die is the fact that I didn’t say the word f once in that noise,” Twellerman said. “That’s 100 percent truth. Colt and Drew, for anyone who knows me, the word f is right, it’s easy. I didn’t say F. and I lost completely s- I completely lost it.
“And then, I still, for the record, had not removed myself from the golf tournament.”
Twellerman said it was not after the ESPN segment that he removed his phone from the plane’s way and realized that Golf would not be in his future the next day, and he would have to be lost in one of the most epic itineraries of his life.
“I turned off (plane mode), and 10 minutes later, this is when I knew: You wouldn’t be able to go to the island. No, no, I didn’t sleep for 35 hours. I did every show, everything, and I am not sorry for it, but I was like, what the hell happened? But all the time I was thinking of a scratched game.”
