Former five divisions world champion Sugar Ray Leonard showed off his quick quick hand speed in a Mitt workout this week. In a video clip, the 69-year-old Sugar Ray worked in the balcony of his beautiful mega-million mansion in the Wealthy Pacific Palisades, California.
The careless hand speed of Leonard
Olympic gold medalist Leonard of 1976 (36-3-1, 25 CO’s) does not seem to have lost much of his speed since he retired in 1982 due to an eye injury. Indeed, even for a fighter in their 20s, it would be impressive to have the speed Sugar Ray showed in the video clip this week. It is rarely to see that a fighter of Leonard’s age still has a hand speed and looks athletic as he does.
Leonard is considered the golden standard for what welter weights should strive for. No one has yet matched the combination of speed, power and boxing capacity that Sugar Ray owned. Although some since he retired, fighters like Floyd Mayweather Jr., Terence Crawford and Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis did not have the overall talent Leonard had.

If Sugar Ray fought during this era, it is unreal how much money he would have earned and his achievements. It would have been interesting to see what he could fight like Canelo Alvarez, Gennadiy Golovkin, Crawford, Boots Ennis and Dmitri Biblical.
When Leonard fought, boxing was still shown on large network television stations such as ABC, CBS and NBC. Following the end of the career of Sugar Ray, his major battles were shown on the front cable platforms, HBO and Showtime. Leonard’s re -broadcast against Tommy Hearns in 1989 was shown on HBO PPV.
