Leeds United make ‘bold bid’ to sign Man City ace James McAtee

Leeds United are eyeing Manchester City midfielder James McAtee, with an ambitious plan to bring the highly-rated 22-year-old to Elland Road in the January transfer window.

Known for his exceptional technical skills and creative flair, McAtee has attracted the attention of a number of clubs. Leeds are now positioned as strong contenders for his signature, despite interest from Premier League sides West Ham and Fulham.

Robinson: Leeds have made ‘bold bid’ to sign James McAtee

talking with Football Insiderformer Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson revealed that the Whites have made a bold move for McAtee, calling their offer “bold”. He also suggested that the club are willing to make a substantial financial offer, which is speculated to be in the region of £30m.

The expert stated:

“Leeds have made a bold bid for him.”

“He’s had two really good loan spells at Sheffield United, West Ham have been in the mix and he’s been linked with Fulham, but it won’t just be them.

“And what would they get for him in January? £20-25m? 30 million pounds?

“There are many clubs who would take James McAtee, either on a permanent contract or on loan.

“But I think Pep Guardiola could be selfish between now and the end of the season and keep him.

“He wants him in their squad and I think they’re going to need him.

“The amount of injuries this season, you’d have thought he’d have got into that first team by now with the talent he’s got.”

James McAtee’s time at Manchester City so far

Despite McAtee’s contract with Manchester City until 2026, Leeds are ready to test Pep Guardiola’s resolve. The City manager may be reluctant to part with the talented youngster, especially given the club’s injury concerns this season.

McAtee has struggled to cement a regular place in City’s star-studded side since making his Premier League debut in 2021. However, his development during two outstanding loan spells at Sheffield United, where he played a key role in its promotion campaign has attracted a lot of attention.

McAtee has shown glimpses of his potential this season, including a goal in a recent UEFA Champions League game against Slovan Bratislava. Despite these successes, he is believed to be looking for consistent first-team opportunities.

At all levels and in all club competitions, the youngster has amassed an incredible 61 goals and 37 assists so far in his career.

Although Leeds are hopeful in their approach, they struggle tough competition like West Ham and Fulham, who also remain interested in McAtee. They will also face resistance from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, who prefers to retain the midfielder, which could further complicate negotiations. It was previously reported that the player is set hold crisp conversations with Guardiola to fully understand their role in the current team.

Leeds United’s pursuit of McAtee indicates their determination to bolster their midfield options as they look to boost their chances of promotion. The club see the young Englishman as a transformative signing who can make an immediate impact while also serving as a long-term asset.
