Leeds United are keen to sign Uzbekistan international defender Abdukodir Khusanov.
according to upper marketclubs like Newcastle, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the 20-year-old centre-back too, but it seems Leeds have now stolen a march on their rivals and tabled an official proposal.
RC Lens want to raise €44m in January to balance their books and are ready to sell the 20-year-old defender next month. Jorge Mendes is expected to facilitate the transfer.
It will be interesting to see if Leeds can get the deal done. They are aiming for promotion to the Premier League and Khusanov could be a useful option for them in the second half of the campaign. He has impressed with his performances in French football and also has the physical and technical attributes to do well in the Championship.
Newcastle and Tottenham need a defender
Meanwhile, Newcastle also need defensive reinforcements and have looked vulnerable at the back this season. The 20-year-old would be a long-term investment for them and it might help them tighten up the rear end.
Manchester City and Tottenham will also be exciting destinations for the player.
Tottenham are lacking depth in the defensive unit, especially with the likes of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven out with injuries.
It will be interesting to see if the Premier League’s top clubs decide to follow up their interest with a bid to sign the player in January.
While there is no doubt that Leeds could be an attractive destination for the player, he could be tempted by a move to the Premier League if a top-flight club comes calling.
It will be interesting to see if RC Lens is willing to sell him for €20 million. Whoever ends up signing him for that kind of money will end up with a significant bargain. The 20-year-old could become a star with the right guidance and playing time.
