Caretaker England manager Lee Carsley insists Harry Kane will “always score goals” amid criticism of the Bayern Munich striker after his last two games.
Kane was charged for Bild journalist to have disappeared in the big games after Bayern’s 1-1 draw Bundesliga champion Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend.
German media went after the England captain again after Bayern were beaten by Aston Villa in the season Champions League on Wednesday night, with the same publication calling him ‘invisible’.
For context, Kane he has managed 15 goals in ten appearances in all competitions so far this season, including a four-goal haul against Dinamo Zagreb. Leverkusen and Villa are the first two games of the 2024/25 season in which he has failed to register at least one goal or assist, but they have also been the highest and toughest games so far for the Bundesliga leaders.
Carsley, taking charge of his second international break as interim England boss, is not worried.
“I saw the game (Aston Villa) last night and it was a brilliant game, a very high tempo. Harry Kane is important for us and he will always score goals,” he said at the press conference this Thursday at the afternoon when he announced the England selection for October.
“Centre forwards are an easy target for some because you expect them to do that, but there are ten other players and he needs support and chances to be created for him and I think he’s excellent. (Kane) was excellent in our last camp and it’s in a good place.”
Kane earned his Head 100 senior for England last month, he scored his 67th and 68th international goals during a 2-0 win over Finland in the UEFA Nations League. The Three Lions host Greece at Wembley on October 10, before the return clash with Finland in Helsinki three days later.
