Lauren James withdraws from the England squad for the October internationals

Lauren James has withdrawn from the England squad for the upcoming internationals in October due to a calf injury.

James was forced to miss it Chelsea’s The recent Women’s Champions League clash with FC Twente in the Netherlands last week, with new Blues manager Sonia Bompaster confirming the injury in her post-match press conference following the 3-1 win:

“He felt something in his foot in the last minute of the warm-up. It’s too early to tell me anything else about LJ at the moment. We’ll have to assess him in London and see how he feels,” Bompaster said.

This injury has meant that James will also be missed lionesses‘ next matches against Germany at Wembley Stadium on 25 October and South Africa at the Coventry Building Society Arena on 29 October.

In a statement released by the FA, it was confirmed that no one has yet been called up to replace James in the squad: “Lauren James has withdrawn from the England squad for the upcoming internationals in October.

“James will remain with Chelsea for treatment as he continues his recovery from a calf injury.

“There are no new additions planned at this time.”

Three of James’ Chelsea team-mates are in the Lionesses squad, with Hannah Hampton, Millie Bright and Aggie Beever-Jones called up for this coming week’s games.
