The Olympic 1500m silver and world bronze medalist took to Instagram to describe the pair as “two truly inspiring people”.
Laura Muir has announced that she will be coached by Steve Crum and Laura Weightman, marking a new chapter in her track and field career.
The 31-year-old Olympic 1500m silver and world bronze medalist described the duo as “two truly inspirational people”, adding that “I’ve been lucky enough to know them both for over a decade”.
Muir previously worked under Steve Vernon, who was also UK Athletics’ endurance manager, for two years (2023-2024) but has now taken up a position with the footwear company.
The Brit was also coached by Andy Young for 11 years (2012-2023), but he and middle distance runner Gemma Rickey parted ways two years ago.
Muir now begins a new Olympic cycle with two coaches who have a wealth of experience in the sport, both on and off the track.
“I’m really excited to announce that I’m being coached by Steve Crum and Laura Weightman,” she wrote on her Instagram. “Two truly inspiring people who I’ve been fortunate to know for over a decade.
“Steve, who has commented on almost every major race in my career, has coached Laura Weightman and has run quite well over 1500m herself. Laura is an amazing competitor and a dear friend who I have raced and trained with for many years there are several medals of the 1500 m championship in between.”
After finishing fifth in the Olympic 1500m final in Paris, Cram and Wightman will no doubt be hoping to put Muir on the podium this year, which concludes at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
Muir, who was the previous British record holder in the 1500m before Georgia Bell’s 3:52.61 at the Stade de France, clocked a best of 3:53.37 in the same race in the French capital.
The Briton secured Olympic silver in the 1500m at the previous Games in Tokyo and also won a world bronze medal in Oregon a year later.
Muir also boasts two European 1500m titles and is a three-time indoor distance champion, along with his two 3000m gold medals.
Although Muir lost his national outdoor 1500m record to Bell, he still holds the record of 3:59.58.
Muir is the British record holder in the mile (4:15.24), 1000m (2:30.82), indoor 3000m (8:26.41) and indoor 5000m (14:49.12).
