Kylian Mbappé has rejected an offer of mediation with former club Paris Saint-Germain as their dispute over unpaid wages and bonuses reverberates.
The forward left PSG this summer at the end of his contract and signed for Real Madrid for free transfer.
Mbappé claims that around €55m was withheld in salary and bonus payments in his final months on PSG’s books, but this has been disputed by his former club as they considered this sum to have been waived voluntarily
In a hearing this week with the LFP, French football’s legal commission, no decision was made in favor of Mbappé. Instead, mediation between the two parties has been recommended.
But Mbappé’s camp is not happy with this result.
A statement from his representatives says: “This morning the possibility of mediation was discussed. This possibility was rejected during the meeting by the player’s representative. A mediation would not serve to record a lack of payment that would see from a simple analysis of the player’s payroll.”
PSG They were understandably happier than Mbappé with this outcome, commenting in a statement of their own: “Paris Saint-Germain is very satisfied with today’s two-hour hearing before the Commission.
“The Club has recalled that the player has made clear and repeated public and private commitments that must be respected, having received unprecedented benefits from the Club during seven fantastic years in Paris.
“In light of the Club’s oral and documented arguments, the Commission insisted on mediation between the parties, which Paris Saint-Germain has been seeking for many months. The Commission has now invited the player to consider the mediation process” .
yes Mbappé continues to refuse mediation, the case is expected to be decided by an employment tribunal, although they are likely to take the LFP’s recommendation into account.
