In an interview with Cricbuzz, the 37-year-old said he has separated his IPL legacy from his career-ending global engagements. Russell explained that the ideal retirement moment for him is when people still care “Why now?” instead of “Why is he still playing?”
The West Indies PowerHouse stressed that they never want to reach a stage where fans say they should retire “Three or four years ago.” Now retired, he believes he is maintaining the aura he built as one of t20 cricket’s most devastating all-rounders.

Russell said his calling was shaped by the retirement of elite athletes like Usain Bolt and Ab and villiersthe one who stepped aside while still being dominant. This approach, he felt, ensured that their legacies were not drained by descent.

Russell also explained how his new job at KKR – head coach – was born.
KKR CEO Venky Mysore understood that he had heard the idea and the appointment, which he knew was a perfect extension of his personality on the field.
