Kenya’s double at Birell 10km, how Denise Kibet Kitiyo clocked 27:17 and Diana Chepkorir won the women’s race in 30:12.
Kenya’s Diana Chepkorir and Denis Kibet Kityo celebrated victories at the Birel 10km in Prague on Saturday (September 7).
Kitio ran away from his rivals in the closing stages, winning the men’s race in 27:17, while Chepkorir ran from the front in the women’s race, building a big lead and clocking 30:12.
In the men’s race, runner-up Vincent Kibet Langat clocked 27:25, with last year’s winner Tadese Worku of Ethiopia third in 27:32 as Rodrigue Kwizera finished fourth in 27:39.
“I am very happy because I was the fastest. I tried to push and push but it was really hot. There were better guys than me, so I’m really happy for the victory,” said Kityo.
Women’s winner Chepkorir said. “I’m very tired, but very happy.”
The runner-up was Miriam Chebet in 31:28, and the third was Ethiopia’s Lemlem Nibret Alemu in 32:20.
