WBC junior middleweight champion Fundora (23-1-1, 15 KOs) does a lot of his work in the lineup. He throws, he absorbs, and he keeps the pressure going. That approach stuck because most opponents couldn’t make him pay for it in a way that changed his behavior. Thurman, 37, sees Fundora’s style openings as the main issue.
He framed this struggle around a single idea. Not laps, not pace, not control. The response.
If Fundora (28) can take the shot and keep doing what he’s doing, the battle remains the same. If he can’t, everything changes quickly. Former two-time 147-lb champion Thurman is betting on that second outcome, and his language has been consistent about it. Brought in to sell the fight on PPV, the inactive Thurman relies on one clean moment to force a response.
That was the pattern in Thurman’s best wins. He relied on sharp, visible blows that interrupted the flow of a fight rather than interfering with it. He is not trying to match Fundora’s work rate over long stretches. He tries to break it with something that sticks out enough to shift the direction.
Fundora was comfortable in fights where he can trade and keep moving. Thurman questions whether that comfort lasts once he’s hit with something he can’t ignore. That’s the whole point he’s pushing, and it reduces the fight to a close test.
It comes down to whether Fundora changes once he feels it, and Thurman clearly believes he will.
