Olympic fourth-placed Cairess hopes to make her mark in the British capital as many of the country’s top distance runners tackle the 26.2 miles on April 27.
After finishing fourth in the Olympic Marathon last summer, Emile Keires will lead the domestic challenge at the TCS London Marathon on April 27.
Eilish McColgan, Charlotte Purdue, Rose Harvey, Jack Rowe, Mohamed Mohamed, Phil Seseman and Alex Yee also compete in the wheelchair race.
Keires has had a meteoric rise since his debut in the 2023 London Marathon over 26.2 miles, where he finished sixth in 2:08:07 to become the fastest British debutant ever at the famous distance.
The 27-year-old took it up another level in 2024. First, he stormed the field in the finals of the 2024 TCS London Marathon, only the second time a British male athlete had won the podium (outside of events) in 2018. After Mo Farah’s third-place finish, Keires’ finishing time of 2:06:46 placed him second was ranked after Farah in the UK all-time list.

Then at last year’s Paris Olympics, where he again found the inner strength to tackle that grueling marathon course and finish fourth, Britain’s best result in an Olympic marathon since John Brown’s two fourth-place finishes at Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004. :
Keires is now looking to continue his rise in the 2025 London Marathon, where Farah’s British record of 2:05:11 could be under threat.
Kires said: “I had a great year in 2024 with really positive results. My focus is always on getting the best out of myself. My runs at the TCS London Marathon and the Paris Olympics were really satisfying and show that hard work pays off.”
“I love competing in the TCS London Marathon because it brings together the best athletes in the world. I want these guys to compete on big occasions. I have three marathons now and I’m still learning about the event. which makes me even more excited and positive for the future. I’m looking forward to some good training and seeing what I can do on Sunday, April 27.”
Cairess will be joined by British and Olympic triathlon champion Alex Yee, who is making his marathon debut, Olympic marathon champion Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia and reigning London Marathon champion Alex Mutiso of Kenya.

Other Britons in the field will include two more Paris Olympians;
Mark Scott will return to London after making his debut at last year’s London Marathon, where he finished 11th, while Jack Rowe, winner of the last two editions of The Big Half, will make his debut over 26.2 miles.
McColgan will make her long-awaited debut in the elite women’s race after recovering from several years of injury. The 34-year-old, whose mother Liz won the London Marathon in 1996, was due to compete over the marathon distance for the first time in 2023 in the 2022 Commonwealth 10,000m after the gold medal. Games in Birmingham. But injuries delayed that marathon debut and he is now looking forward to what he can finally do on London’s famous course.

McColgan said: “I’m really looking forward to making my marathon debut in London this year. After 12 months with a serious injury, I’m excited to finally get back on my feet and start the next chapter of my career on the roads.
“I’ve always had such incredible support on the streets of London when I run the 10km and half marathon events, so I’m looking forward to the full atmosphere of the TCS London Marathon.”
Other British women in the race include Harvey, who finished last year’s Paris Olympic marathon despite suffering a broken leg in the race.Perdue, the third-fastest British female marathoner of all time; Philly Bowden, who was 9th on the British all-time list when he ran 2:25:47 in the 2024 BMW Berlin Marathon; and Lucy Reid, who ran 2:26:35 on her marathon debut in Malaga in December.

The 45-year-old, who has won the London Marathon a record eight times, has announced that the Paris Paralympics will be his last race, but his passion for road racing shows no signs of slowing down and he has shown he has plenty more to come. competitive on the world stage, finishing second in the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon.
In the women’s competition, Rainbow-Cooper, who won her first Abbott World Marathon Major last year when she tackled the famous Boston Marathon hills, will again look to challenge the London course. The best place in the London Marathon since 2010 is third place.
