Keely Hodgkinson runs the 400m at the Rome Diamond League

The Olympic 800m champion will be aiming to improve on her best over one lap in the Italian capital.

Keeley Hodgkinson will compete in the 400m at the Diamond League in Rome, just three days before running the two-lap race in Stockholm (June 7).

The Briton will test his speed in the Italian capital and will no doubt be keen to improve on his Stadio Olimpico best of 51.49.

Hodgkinson set the mark at the Scottish Athletics Invitational in Glasgow earlier last month, just over a week after he ran a world indoor record of 1:54.87.

The 24-year-old then showed off her 400m speed, this time from a rolling start, in the women’s 4x400m relay at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Torun.

Hodgkinson, running the anchor leg for Great Britain, produced a 50.10 split, the fastest of anyone in the entire field.

This was the same evening that he clocked 1:55.30, the second fastest indoor 800 meters in history behind his own world record, to become the world indoor champion.

The Olympic 800m champion has made no secret of her desire to go faster outdoors this summer and may even target Yarmila Kratochvilova’s 1983 world record of 1:53.28.

Kratochvilova had a personal best in the 400 meters of 47.99, which ranks her fourth on the all-time list behind Marita Koch, Sydney McLaughlin-Levron and Marilid Paulino.
