Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano 3: Strategic Analysis

Today is the day of the historic trilogy between Katie Taylor (24-1, 6 COs) and Amanda Serrano (47-3-1, 31 COs). The struggle to close the chapter on the legendary match between two of the best female boxers.

It just fits it at the end, where it started at the Mecca of Boxing, Madison Square Garden. After two highly controversial attacks where many people debate that Serrano has won, the need for the third game is needed to prove right who is the rightful champion.

The battle will be disputed at 136 pounds, which is less than the 140 pounds they fought in November last year. The difference of 4 pounds favored Serrano who went into weight in the second game to fight Taylor. Although disputed at 136 pounds, the undisputed championship is still at stake.

So, after expanding Taylor in two games, which Serrano could possibly do to earn the judges’ decision. First, she must be more defensive and as she said at Wednesday’s press conference – – smarter. Getting less hit and to do so, she has to be more technically healthy. She must use the stitch at will. Chantelle Cameron is the only boxer to defeat Katie Taylor and she did it by exerting relentless pressure.

Cameron led her pressure attack with a large amount of Jabs, using it to set up her combination and keep Taylor on defense. In their re -broadcast, Cameron was not nearly as aggressive, but was more economical with her bumps and also threw less stitch. As a result, Taylor did better and avenged her only loss.

The two boxers who were most challenging for Taylor were the top two -volume female punchers in Serrano and Cameron. This leads the average round output on 72.2 (Serrano) and 60.8 (Cameron) which shows Taylor’s problems with high volume defense. In the second game, Serrano ended up 56 percent of the 382 strokes that threw his round 7 to 10, her production increased significantly during these rounds that Taylor expanded 215 to 73. In four rounds, Serrano ended up almost the same amount of punch.

If Serrano intends to finally dethrone the undisputed champion, she must maximize her production and leave no doubt that she deserves victory. She must attack with relentless pressure and do so by leading a high rate. The sample is the key to keeping Taylor in check and does not allow her to come inside. Serrano is a quick fight against Serrano.

For Taylor, she must be intelligent boxing, knowing that Serrano will do everything in her power to ensure the victory. Serrano is perhaps more aggressive and takes more risks, making her susceptible to counters. Taylor is the more technically sound of the two and she will have to use the lateral movement to delay Serrano. Taylor has better footwork and she can use her legs to make a harder target. She has a slight benefit of ½ inch and can use it to control the distance.

The first two games were epic and the third one must be just as big. The two created a road for women’s box to thrive and on the head and all women’s card at Madison Square Garden proves it. The event is record and historic for both boxing and women’s sports in general.
