It’s the battle of the Big 12.
The Kansas Jayhawks take on the Cincinnati Bearcats today at 2pm ET and it’s the matchup everyone has been waiting for.The last time KU and Cincy faced the Bearcats, the Jayhawks had a 20-point doubleheader vs. But the tables have turned a bit for them in the Big 12 this season, as they currently are 0-3 in conference play and trying to snap their losing streak.
Meanwhile, KU is currently 2-1 in the Big 12, good for fourth in the conference and ranked No. 11 in the nation.This will be the first time the two programs have met in Cincy since ’64.
If there’s one thing you need to know about both teams, it’s that they don’t play when it comes to defense, especially the Bearcats, who can steal the offensive boards with ease.
“Our halfcourt, man-to-man defense was the most reliable we’ve had all year,” head coach Wes Miller said after the loss to Baylor. “Tonight, I even felt like we locked down all five , that will be a breakthrough. Credit them. they got a handful of baskets in transition and our defense struggled to come back.”
They’ll have to put in the same energy and more against KU because the Jayhawks’ defense is so elite that they’ve been blocking opponents.Add in the fact that they’ve also got the 24th most efficient offense according to KenPom, and you looking at a seriously dominant team that can put on a show on both ends of the floor.
“We were great on defense,” head coach Bill Self told the media after the win over Arizona State , then they get the layout right at the end. But it was exceptional.”
