Juventus secured a crucial 2-0 win over Genoa, powered by two early goals and a commanding performance at the Allianz Stadium.
Juventus, fifth in Serie A, sought to strengthen their push for European qualification. Genoa, currently 14th, wanted to spring a surprise. The visitors had won two and lost three of their last five league games.
The local team wasted no time. In the fourth minute, defender Bremer powerfully headed home an assist from Lloyd Kelly, giving Juventus an early lead.
Juventus kept up intense pressure. Weston McKennie then doubled the lead in the 17th minute, slotting his shot past the Genoa goalkeeper from a precise pass from Francisco Conceição.
There were several bookings in the first half, with Manuel Locatelli (15′) and McKennie (26′) receiving yellow cards for Juventus. Despite the fouls, Juventus controlled 62% of possession.
Juventus held a comfortable two-goal lead at the break, leaving Genoa with plenty to think about.
In the second half, Mattia Perin replaced Michele Di Gregorio in the Juventus goal. Di Gregorio had made three important saves in the first half.
Genoa tried to come back with substitutions, with Junior Messias (52′), Ruslan Malinovskyi (66′) and Lorenzo Colombo (66′). Morten Frendrup was cautioned by Genoa in the 51st minute.
The visitors’ best chance came in the 75th minute when they were awarded a penalty. Albert Martin went forward, but unfortunately his effort went wide, denying Genoa a vital goal.
Juventus defender Bremer and midfielder Khéphren Thuram have also received yellow cards (72′, 78′). The home side expertly managed the remaining minutes to secure victory.
Juventus recorded 16 shots in total, with five on target, and an expected goal (xG) of 2.2. Genoa had 12 shots, three on target, and an xG of 1.37, reflecting the hosts’ clear dominance.
This vital victory strengthens Juventus’ grip on a European place as the Serie A season draws to a close. Genoa will reflect on a missed penalty that could have changed the game.
