Juan Soto dropped the highly anticipated news Sunday night when it was announced that he was signing a 15-year, $765 million contract with the New York Mets to break the record for the largest contract in professional sports history.
In recent weeks, journalists have worked hard to get as much information as possible about the negotiation process.
While the New York Yankees came close to meeting Soto’s financial wishes, there was one issue he wasn’t happy with during his time with the Yankees.
Jon Heyman reported live from the Winter Meetings that a Yankees security guard dived Soto’s mom or dad from the stadium early last season.
This caused some negative feelings for Soto before the same guard eventually threw Soto’s driver and cook out of the stadium as well and made them wait in the rain.
Heyman says it appears a Yankees security guard shot Soto’s mother or father from the ballpark in April or May, and there was some backlash about it; then the same guy kicked Soto’s driver and cook out year after year and they had to wait in the rain. pic.twitter.com/kez3Yp7PXE

If this report is true, it makes sense why it would affect Soto’s decision to sign elsewhere.
When you sign the biggest contract in sports history, it’s a reasonable expectation that your family and friends are taken care of as well.
If the Yankees couldn’t guarantee that while meeting the amount Messi offered, it wouldn’t be surprising if he moved to town.
Mets owner Steve Cohen made it clear months ago that he was willing to hand Soto a blank check, which finally happened after weeks of speculation suggesting otherwise.
It will be interesting to hear more about how these negotiations ended.
