Chon Bri (December 21). A Kenyan double for Samvel Mailu (62:59) and Delphine Omare (70:14) at the Bangsaen21 Half Marathon (wa platinum label). Ethiopians completed the podiums with Teresa Nyakola (63:22) and Regasa Seyoum Beharu (63:36) and Beriha Gebreyones (71:12) and Mehret Gemeda (72:30) respectively.
Taipei City (TPE, December 21). Gadse Mulu won the Taipei Marathon (wa Gold Label) in a course record of 2:24:17 ahead of his 41-year-old Ethiopian team in 2:24:4 2018 European champion Volhaa Belusel Beluswell of Mazuronak was 3rd. The men’s race in 2:09:31, ahead of Kenya’s Jonathan Samanayo (2:09:51) and Wilfred Kirwa (2:10:30) in a 1-2-3 finish. European marathon silver medalist Maru Teferi was sixth in 2:11:4
Guangzhou (Sun, December 21). Kenya’s Joyce Tele won the Guangzhou Marathon (Wa Gold Label) in 2:22:40, clear of Ethiopia’s Bethlehem Afenigus (2:27:52) and Chaltu Chimdesa (2:31:37). Ethiopia’s afewerk Mesfin won the men’s race in 2:12:23 ahead of Kenya’s Felix Kirwa (2:12:25) and China’s Siren Zhaxi (2:14:06). Kenenisa Bekele reportedly dropped out after two kilometers.
CHANDLER (USA, December 21). Prisca Cherono, 45, who won 5000m bronze for Kenya at the 2007 World Championships, won the Marathon Project race in Chandler with a PB of 2:25:17 ahead of Molly Grabill (2:28:05). Hanna Lindholm of Sweden (2:31:19). In the men’s race, JP Flavin won with a 2:09:18 PB from Turner Wiley (2:09:27 PB) and South Africa’s Nadil Wildschut (2:09:40 on debut). Paul Chelimo was seventh in a PB of 2:10:55.

PISA (ITA, December 21). Russian Dmitry Nedelin, who won his national marathon title earlier this year with a PB time of 2:09:38, won the Pisa Marathon in 2:12:28 by almost seven minutes. Polish Dominika Stelmach (43 years old) won the women’s competition with 2:38:25. In other races, Giovanna Epis won the adjacent half marathon in 73:29.
Cittadella (Itta, December 21). Federica Del Buono wins the Cittadella Half Marathon with a lifetime best of 70:0 Eritrea’s Mogos Shumai won the men’s race in 63:48 from Moldova’s Maxim Rileanu (64:43).
WOLUWÉ (BEL, December 20). Burundi’s Patrick Nimubona won the Corrida 5K in Brussels on the uncertified course in 13:48. Phoebe Triest (16:14) led the women’s race.
OKAYAMA (JPN, December 21). Kenya’s Margaret Akidor, who ran the 5,000m at the Tokyo World Championships, won her SANYO Ladies Road Race half-marathon title in 67:52 last year, ahead of Kenyans Agnes Mutuku (68:01) and Tabithan (269:99). Lucy Nduta won the neighboring 10km in a PB of 31:49.
KYOTO (JPN, December 21). Boys from Nagano Higashi High School (1:06:30 half marathon) and Gakuho Ishikawa High School (2:00:36) topped Ekiden National High School. Kenyan under-20 runners Janet Jepkoech Chepkemoi (8:32) and Felix Mutiani (7:40) set championship records in the 3K stage.
“Getafe” (Esp., December 21). This year’s Spanish champion and Tokyo competitor Alvaro López won the 27th edition of the Walking Trofeo de marcha cerro buenavista in 40:38 over 10km. Lydia Sanchez-Puebla was the top female with a score of 46:1
