Jepkosgei 2:14:00 WL/CR beat Jepchirchir

VALENCIA (ESP). Former London and New York champion Joycelyn Jepkosgei, 31, set a world-leading, course record and lifetime best of 2:14:00 (66:33/67:27) to win the women’s race at the Valencia Marathon (WA Platinum Label) and move into fourth on the all-time list. Reigning World Champion Perez Jepchirshire paid the price for the nearly 34km experience but also put in a great performance and PB of 2:14:43. European half-marathon champion Chloe Herbier of Belgium finished third and led a pack of new national record holders (2:20:38) ahead of Finland’s Alyssa Vainio (2:20:48, third marathon in 3 months) and Commonwealth champion Jessica Stenson (2:21:24) of Australia. It is also worth noting that Meritxel Soler finished tenth as the best Spanish woman (2:23:49 PB) ahead of Great Britain’s Natasha Wilson (2:24:21), Julia Maier finished 14th in a new Austrian record (2:26:09) and Slovenia’s Lisa Shine was 24th in 32:9.
