Promoter Eddie Hearn says that when Anthony Joshua hits Jake Paul with his “heavy artillery”, it will all be over for him. He will be badly beaten in their fight on December 19.
Joshua-Paul will meet on Netflix at the Kaseya Center in Miami in eight days. The eight-round fight will show if the 36-year-old Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) has anything left after a brutal knockout in his last fight in 2024. He has had a good 15 months off since that terrible night against Daniel Dubois.
Hear’s nervous energy
“He’ll find out all about levels and strength and the danger of taking a fight like this,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. iFL TV on what Jake Paul is up against in the fight against Anthony Joshua. “And he’s going to be badly beaten.
Hearn had a nervous, anxious look in his eyes that didn’t match the brave words he said about Joshua. It was a classic look of someone unsure of the outcome. He is so easy to read. It was as if Hearn was thinking, ‘I hope AJ can win. I just don’t know. If Jake beats him clean, it’s over. How can you bring him back? I already tried a four-fight rebuild. Very good that did. He was immediately plowed by Dubois.’
“The only thing is, how badly is he going to get knocked out. It probably comes down to a bit of luck. He has to be lucky with nothing to land too cleanly. The biggest consequence for Jake Paul right now is that he gets away with it by not getting knocked out too evenly because the artillery will be heavy,” says Hearn.
Joshua’s expert question
If Jake gets into Joshua in the first round, it might be over for AJ because he’s going to get hit with one of the 40mm grenades that will explode on him. Given how Joshua was knocked down in rounds 1, 3, 4 and 5 in his last fight against Daniel Dubois in 2024, there may be remnants of that still echoing in his head.
Coming back from that devastation straight into a fight against knockout artist Paul spelled bad for AJ.
“Don’t worry about someone holding back, ‘Oh, it’s Jake Paul. Let’s not take that too.’ No, we’re going to be there locked and loaded with the heaviest artillery in the heavyweight division that will be unleashed on Jake Paul in Miami. And it will be released sharp, fast, hard on his chin. When it lands clean, he doesn’t get up, and the fight is over, and he gets knocked out bad,” Hearn said.
Career interests for AJ
For Hearn’s sake, he better hope Joshua gets through this fight without getting knocked out again. I don’t think he’ll be able to handle all the laughter afterwards of AJ being blasted in by Paul like a submarine that has reached wasteful depths in the ocean.
There will be so many fans calling for Joshua’s retirement. I just wonder how Hearn will handle all of this as his flagship fighter is rounded out by a non-heavyweight.
