Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois event at Wembley Stadium in London has now sold out, with a record crowd of 96,000 for this Saturday, September 21. His Excellency Turki Alalshikh revealed on his social media page that the event was sold out.
In an all-British showdown, Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs) will challenge Dubois (21-2, 20 KOs) for his IBF heavyweight title in the main event. Promoter Eddie Hearn hopes Joshua will emerge victorious as he plans to face Tyson Fury next.
Today’s final press conference was pretty tame, with former two-time heavyweight champion Joshua and Dubois on their best behavior.
“That’s the record; that’s 96,000, I think, at a time when British boxing needs a shot in the arm,” said Eddie Hearn. “We are all very proud of the way he has carried himself since the Olympic gold medal.
It will be interesting to see how Joshua and Dubois fight in front of a massive crowd. This may work more in Dubois’ favor because he fights off adrenaline and is at his best when the noise is loud. In contrast, Joshua quickly loses energy when fighting in front of a large crowd and lacks the stamina to fight hard without gassing.
Fans on social media are overwhelmingly picking Joshua to win, with many calling the fight a blowout. There will be a lot of unhappy boxing fans on Saturday if Dubois knocks out Joshua. The people who chose Joshua will wonder what went wrong, but if they had their heads on straight, they would realize that he is old and fighting an old man who is completely wrong for him.
“Every fighter in the country today has benefited from the rise and the performances and, above all, the behavior of Anthony Joshua. He was a role model,” Hearn said.
