Jordan Spieth was thinking of not thinking.
Thinking, or perhaps his absence, came a week ago, as he was returning from a left -wing operation, and he was idealizing what would come.
“Ideally, I just don’t think about it,” Spy said
The plan lasted all about nine holes.
On Thursday, during the first round game in WM Phoenix OpenSpieth spieped. He excelled, looking for a lot as the main winner three times that he is, after a three-nine 68-year-old at TPC Scottsdale. There was also relief. He said in his 10th hole during the first round of last week AT&T Pebble Beach pro-amHe “blocked” the wrist in a bunker kick and that then “closed” on it.
“Type of my sore hand in the first round,” he said.
From there, things spirated some, and Spieth ended up with rounds two-nine years old, even-even 72, seven-on 79, and five-nine 67. “When you are not moving well,” he said, “to me, I “Ve got a lot of lean and very left -wing involved, and if it is not supported, it will go far away from the line. “
Should there be concerns? The ankles are integral for rhythm, and he said he left the work he would have done “just to manipulate what I could” – but returned to his Sunday process and again Thursday at WM. He said he was encouraged.
“This was paid there,” Spieth said of his attempt on Sunday. “Then I put up a few good working days here and thought I played better than I scored.”
Thursday was not clean – he lost eight of the 14 right roads – but he withdrew only once, and he was strong in the stroke: access, a metric in which he fought last year. In 2024, Spieth was ranked at 137 in PGA Tour in the category; On Thursday he was among the first 20 places in the field.
“Playing a round in some underneath here when the conditions were – the pins were really withdrawn today, so it was a little harder than a normal round in the morning here, and to feel like I left some there is a feeling Really good, ”Spieth said.
He said it is too giving yourself a gracethough difficult to do.
Spy underwent surgery Last August. He said he talked to others who would go through similar procedures. He felt he didn’t rush things. He said it is hope for this year, but also realistic.
“I think the short deadline is – the shortest deadline is to feel like spending these three weeks and I feel so good or better than me when I started as physically,” spieth said last week. “This is a kind of purpose not – not very exciting, but the one that means a lot. And then I would like to work myself in quarrel in front of masters at least once. And then perhaps a high goal this year would be To make the team of Ryder Cup.
“Many of this have been a kind of 10 -year view. I think if I try to get – try to do it this year by returning from this ‘should play well’, I will simply be frustrated because even though it was a little while ago , I really didn’t play, you know, Golf.
“So I think looking at it from a long-term view while I go to the first peak, I go with goals, but let’s set, let it get fully healthy and get some of these shots from these hinges- Just playing very differently is very different from hitting many balls from mattresses. Similar and set some goals for some victories and some claims in diplomas and things like that. “
Spieth also said so much on Thursday.
“My expectations are low,” he said. “I expect me to make good swing, but in terms of results, it’s hard to think I have to wait a lot after six months of rest.
“Saying this, I know where I was today, and I know I can do better than I did today. If I can try to post some results in or better than today, then you never know – I start to I get back to the mix and gets very fun and I hope the most stable. “
