Jonny Mellor impresses with 10km win at Knutsford



A 2:09 marathon runner enjoys victory in Cheshire as we present a round-up of our latest endurance race results.

KNUTSFORD 10km, Cheshire, September 29

Jonny Mellor, who ran a personal best of 2:09:06 at the Seville Marathon in February, comfortably won the Knutsford 10km.

The Brit is gathering for his second race over 26.2 miles in New York this year and warmed up well with a 29:44 win in Cheshire.

Mellor also clocked 28:47 at the Manchester 10km in May, not far from his personal best of 28:30 two years ago.

Martha Thibault also won the Knutsford 10km and beat her best by almost a minute, running 34:23.

Hattie Freeman, who ran 73:40 in Malaga last December, also beat Alice Johnson by more than four minutes in 75:28.

David Bishop won the Robin Hood Half Marathon in 68:18 and the top M45 athlete was Paralympic gold medalist Richard Whitehead in 75:11.

The women’s race title was retained by World Rowing Cup bronze medalist Olivia Bates, who improved nearly five minutes on her winning time from 2023 with a personal best of 79:22.

START FITNESS NORTH EAST HARRIER LEAGUE, Peterlee, Tyne & Wear, September 28.

The seven-race league soon kicked off the 2024/25 season at Thornley Hall Farm and saw a comfortable victory for Morpeth’s Josh Fiddaman.

The 2023 BUCS champion beat Alex Bellew by over a minute and a half.

It was much closer in the women’s race as Birtley’s Lydia Turner beat Houghton junior Charlotte Dillon by 100m.

The 27-year-old former European Under-20 bronze medalist has also represented Great Britain at the 2018 Under-23 Championships since 2014, but has had a few years off since earlier this year.

Dillon finished eighth in the under-20 cross-country race earlier in 2024 after a couple of North East Harrier wins.

In the age group races, Kitty Graham, the 2023 Northern Counties bronze medallist, won the Under 15 event.
