Coach Joel Diaz says he doesn’t believe Terence Crawford will be able to take Canelo Alvarez’s bumps without welcoming their ‘Fight of the Century’ on September 13. He mentions that the naturally larger fighter, Canelo (63-2-2, 39 COs), will be able to take the push of Crawford (41-0, 31 COs), but that he can’t handle it in return.
The two weight classes that Crawford, 37, will rise to challenge Canelo for his undisputed championship at 168, will be too much. Diaz notes that Crawford couldn’t do “nothing” to move up from 147 to 154 to challenge Israil Madrimov on August 3, 2024 for his WBA junior middleweight title.
Fans’ “stupid” crawford faith
Now Terence is moving two weight classes to fight Canelo against Super -Middelweight, and it will have a worse result. Crawford cannot rely on the judges to sponsor him as against Madrimov because he is not the A-side this time.
“Many people say Crawford can’t beat any problem. I respect it but I just think they are stupid, ‘said coach Joel Diaz Teentheropes. “The size difference of a larger man changes everything with one punch, and I can see the same thing.”
Mayweather Blueprint will not work
The best Crawford can hope for with its size, power and experience is to follow the Mayweather and Erislandy Lara blueprint to the Outbox Canelo. Even then, he will have to count on the judges giving weight to his lighter blows against Canelo’s much harder, cleaner shots.
They gave Mayweather credit, but it was years ago, in 2013. Crawford is older, slowerand did not have the popularity Floyd had when he fought against Alvarez. He will not have a catch to weaken Canelo as Mayweather did in their 152 -pound fight, and he faces a stronger version of the Mexican star. Floyd did not fight the 2025 version. If he did, he would be forced to run more around the ring and use a lot of liking.
Madrimov -match equation
“You’ve seen Canelo Alvarez fight against Amir Khan. Look at this. Terence Crawford moved from 147 to 154 to fight (Israil) Madrimov. What did he do to Madrimov? Nothing, ‘says Diaz. “Israil Madrimov is a 154 pound. Now to move to 168, these are two more divisions.”
Canelo is more powerful and aggressive than Madrimov. He will not waste time with all the endless feints used by Madrimov. He undermined his chances of winning the battle by using too many feints and not using his natural size, power and youth benefit to take a great lead over Terence in the first half. Madrimov could have done it easily if he were to fight more aggressively.
Canelo has resurrected GGG
“Canelo Alvarez will take any punch from Crawford, but I don’t think Crawford will take any punch from Canelo. Remember, Canelo was hit by GGG, the heaviest in that section (middleweight), and Canelo took the shots like a champion. I don’t think Crawford has something to beat.”
If Canelo makes contact with the kind of shots with which he hit William Scull and Edgar Berlanga in his last two fights, Crawford will make it difficult to take it. Whatever the struggle in him, it can disappear. We know that Crawford is known for being a participant, but if he is hit, he will be self -preservation. Once he does, the chance he has won will be in the drain.
