A slightly chubby Filip Hrgovic weighed in a career for his 10-round head liner against heavyweight Joe Joyce on Saturday, April 5, with a starting time of the event at 14:00 et/11 o’clock pt at the Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester, England. Look at the whole fighting card Live on dazn.
Weigh-in-results
Joe Joyce – 275.1 against Filip Hrgovic 250.6
The weight of the Juggernaut is six pounds lighter than the 281 pounds he weighed for his last match against Derek Chisora on July 27 last year. Joyce looked slow and drowsy in the ring as he moved into a slow movement in the ten round competition, which he lost through a unanimous decision.
Short notice, form concern
Interestingly, Joyce (16-3, 15 kos) looked slimmer around the waist as HRGOVIC (17-1, 14 COs). Who would think that ‘the Juggernaut would come into the struggle as a slimmer of appearance as HRGOVIC. However, it can’t matter, because HRGovic still has a big advantage in hand speed.
Further, Philip’s rabbit sponge Technique is textbook. Joyce won’t last long if HRGOVIC is behind the head with the deadly shots on Saturday. If there is a good referee who works the battle, Hrgovic will not be able to use his rabbit punch, but it only takes one good shot for him to hurt his opponents.
It will be interesting to see if he uses the punch to submit Joyce. With the way Joe looked like in his last three fights against Derek Chisora, Kash Ali and Zhilei Zhang, Hrgovic was able to make him work quickly by keeping it clean. Promoter Eddie Hearn predicts a quick knockout by HRGOVIC within four rounds.
HRGOVIC has not had a whole training camp yet. He was brought in at two weeks of notice to fight Joyce after the initially scheduled opponent, Dillian Whyte, pulled out with an injury.
By looking at the 32-year-old HRGOVIC’s midsection, you can see that he is not in the kind of form he is usually for his fighting. He looks like someone who has been sitting on the bench for the past five months, and he has eaten well since Daniel Dubois with an eighth round on June 1 last year in Riyadh.
Hrgovic weighed 247 pounds for his fight against Dubois, and he threw out after five rounds. Daniel hurled the exhausted Philip from six to eight rounds, which at the time of the stopping left a bloody, bad mess.
This week, Hrgovic was filled with excuses about his loss and said he was injured, and maybe he was. Dubois was on another level and would have done a number on HRGOVIC, no matter how healthy he was.
