Joe Cordina does not fight a little well-known Jaret Gonzalez Quiroz for the WBO Global Lightweight title on Saturday, July 5 in a 10-round in the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.
Cordina (17-1, 9 food) and Quiroz (17-1, 13 COs) will be shown Live on dazn On the bottom map of Jack Catterall against Harlem Eubank.
Mason vs. Noakes Winner Aim
Cordina is interested in the fight against the winner of the Abdullah Mason against Sam Noakes fight around the WBO lightweight title. Joe believes that the capture of the WBO world title will rank the rankings with that organization, where he can be selected by the winner.
It would be ideal if Noakes captured the WBO title, as it would set up an al-British collision against Cordina. It is also a more winable battle for Cordina than standing up against the big bricklayer and to worry about the 21-year-old.
Cordina is currently not arranged in the top 15 by the WBO. But if he can be arranged, it will allow his promoter, Eddie Hearn, to institute an agreement. If Mason catches the belt, he would be more interested in fighting some of the bigger names, rather than choosing the 34-year-old Cordina, who is seen by some fans as the news of yesterday and at the disadvantage of his career.
“Jaret Gonzalez, the same plate as me, but just more knockouts. And I wanted to keep it with someone with a few knockouts. It keeps me on,” Joe Cordina said Matchroom Boxing about his opponent for this Saturday.
Quiroz has been by 2021 by Hector Garcia Dolores (9-10, 6 costs) in the third round. Since then, Quiroz has won his last five fights against poor opposition with poor records. When we look at Delores, the kind of fighter plane quiroz reveals and why he was chosen to fight Cordina.
Cordina arrived in Riyadh in Riyadh from an eighth round to Anthony Cacace last May, and he looks completely over the fight. Cacace’s production and skills were far beyond Cordina, and it was not a big surprise that the battle ended with a knockout.
Why the 14-month break?
It is unclear why Cordina has chosen since that defeat to sit outside the ring for 14 months. He should have returned to the ring long ago and fought against one of the top contenders to return from the loss.
If you look at the match box ‘Day in the Life’ on YouTube, it seems that Cordina enjoys playing a lot of golf. This may explain why he has not fought since his loss. Does he have one foot outside the door in retirement?
