Niemann shot a six under 65 on Sunday at Club De Golf Chapultepec to win Liv Golf MexicoAnd he has now claimed half of the league titles so far this season.
The victory is Niemann’s third; Liv has played only six events.
“Today was a really exciting Sunday for me to be there with them in the last group, especially in Mexico, and I felt like I was adapting quite well with the crowd,” Niemann said. “They were giving me a lot of energy at the beginning of the round, drawing to me, and I was able to play well, do some great bunker shots, something I’ve worked on in a lot of recent times, and I feel like that short game is a kind to come and help me have the best rounds when the game is not so good, and I can still be so good.
“It is special to have the short game on my back, and yes, it was a difficult day at the end. I was able to hit big shots and end up in 18 with little stylish, also, having crowds in the background. It was special.”
Victory also means that Niemann is in the US Open in Oakmont. USGA recently created a Exemption To go to a liv player in the top three places of the league ranking (since May 19) which is not otherwise excluded. Niemann created such a superiority of the points that he has already closed it up.
“My team was asking me to sign up for the qualification and section, and I wasn’t really in this,” he said. “So more than anything I am grateful for not playing 36 holes on Monday after a tournament. Yes, I’m very happy.”
Bryson dechambeau He entered the day with solo lead at 13 under, one in front of Cameron Smith and two in front of Niemann. They played in the same group on Sunday, though Niemann did not make a noise until the 14th hole. He ended 16 under, three clear from Dechambeau and Lucas Herbert, who tied up for the second. Dechambeau was also the day and played the last six in three.
“It was a good battle with Bryson, with cam,” said Niemann, “so I’m happy to be in this position now.”
