Sh.ba Open had everything: an iconic place, thick, fast, weather-time greens, and a 72nd hit of holes to win them all.
But there was no one thing that diplomas can usually be counted: Great viewing.
JJ Spaun’s victory in Oakmont Longer Feature made of the entire tournament, in the last hole, to win its first magnitude.
However, the last round of 2025 US Open attracted only 5.4 million medium viewers.
This is Sunday’s lowest audience for an open in the US since the Covid 2020 tournament on Winged Foot.
The weather didn’t help
A 96-minute rain delay pushed the final extension of the holes and this is probably where some viewers were lost.
Most of the big names were already without quarrel, it began to rain and people were busy with the day of the father.
The look peaked at nine million late a day, but fell from there. It is a harsh break given the extraordinary performance we have seen.
How was the open ratings in the SH.BA against PGA and masters
As we were looking at these statistics, we had to look back at the first 2025 diplomas to see what those numbers looked like. It is very easy to see that when there is a big collision in the line people are tuned.
The masters peaked in about 20 million viewers on Sunday. Historically, the US Open attracts more viewers than the PGA Championship and this trend continued in 2025. Last year’s Open Championship – the only large left in the 2025 calendar – on average just more than three million viewers over the last round.
We will see if the year 2025 brings more drama and more eyes to the last part of the year in Royal Troon.

It is difficult to write a better scenario than a walk in the 72nd hole of an open US. No matter how many people were watching Sunday, JJ Spaun is now a home name and an open champion in the US.
