Before it was an Open US champion Sunday, JJ Spaun told his wife that they should make a quick one-night trip to New York City along the way to the way to Travelerwhich leave today at Cromwell, Conn.
She was not convinced, though it turns out that the journey became essentially mandatory anyway.
SPAUN closed Open 2025 US Open with a two-top 72, finishing a underneath and beating Robert Macintre by two. Since then it has been a whirlpool. And much of this was the NYC champion tournament.
“It was crazy. I moved from the green and then turned to green probably around 8:45 pm and then made all the formalities of the ceremony, signing a bunch of memoranda, undoubtedly taking the trophy, seeing to be engraved,“Spaun said Wednesday, speaking to the media at the travelers championship.” USGA did a great job to give us our little room to hang and calm down all night until we wanted to leave. We didn’t leave until around 1am “
Back to the place where he was staying in Pittsburgh, Spaun took a quick shower and tried to capture all the texts and phone calls he received. He has heard from George Lopez, Mookie Betts, Scott Van Pelt, Curtis Strange, Hale Irwin and a bunch of others. He only slept for about three hours on Sunday night.
“Then we were in New York City,” he said. “We had a pleasant dinner with my family on Monday evening. We went to do all the media 6 Tuesday morning. It didn’t end – it was literally without stopping. I didn’t finish by 3:30 pm, 4 in the afternoon, we got into a car, headed here. That was about 3 1/2 hours.
“Finally I have a good sleep, however. I slept about eight hours, which was beautiful. The last two nights, I got the same amount as I did last night combined.”
It’s been a week that changes life for SPAUN, and more doors have begun to open now. He is the sixth in the FedEx Cup rankings (he has never played in a tour championship) and he is the third in Ryder Cup’s ranking (he never made the team).
The captain of this Ryder Cup team, KEEGAN BRADLEYThere were some tips for SPAUN this week. Bradley won the 2011 PGA Championship in his big debut.
“Winning the US Open will be a great incentive for that kind of inner ego, I think you can say, to keep it living and burnt self -esteem,” Spaun said. “I have to enjoy this, as Kengan told me yesterday. He said,” You have to enjoy this. Do your best to just enjoy it. It is easy to leave it to leave the window and get it right next week and forget it for a while, but just do your best to enjoy it. “
“I’m planning to enjoy the next week, that’s for sure. At least for next week.”
Travelers, the latest season signature event, is at TPC River Highlands in Connecticut. Golf Channel’s Telekasti begins on 3rd afternoon on Thursday. Spaun is paired with world No.1 Scottie Scheffler for the first two rounds. They will leave at 1:45 in the afternoon on Thursday.
